Levitating Lamp

Inspired by some of the extremely simple and beautiful levitating lamp designs out there, I decided to build my own. As shown below, I have experience with magnetic levitators, so the only trick left for me to figure out is how to efficiently transfer power wirelessly, and to add my own interactive touch to it!

Here’s a quick video of the wireless power transfer system I’m using [utilizing resonant inductive coupling]:

The magnetic levitating part of the project is complete; I built a magnetic levitator capable of lifting a small weight with high stability [as shown in the demo video below].

Most of the work left in the project is finalizing an aesthetic design for the lamp and then customizing the electronics to fit the appropriate form factors.

  1. Can I just say what a relief to discover somebody who truly understands what they are discussing on the internet. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people must read this and understand this side of your story. It’s surprising you’re not more popular because you most certainly possess the gift.
